Since 2001, the Save the Children Internet hotline has been part of INHOPE, an international network of 50 hotlines worldwide, all of which deal with reports of child sexual abuse material. The INHOPE collaboration is one of the Save the Children Internet hotline’s most important partners in combating the distribution of child sexual abuse material on the Internet.
Each year, INHOPE members process around 1 million reports of potentially illegal material.
INHOPE works together to:
- exchange reports
- support and train new reporting services
- exchange knowledge
- ensure common standards for the reporting services dealing with illegal offensive material
- cooperate with relevant international partners, such as Interpol, Europol, Microsoft, Google, and Facebook
- provide information to decision-makers
INHOPE receives support from the EU Commission.
Danish National Police
The Save the Children Internet hotline works particularly closely with the Danish National Police. We forward all illegal sexual assault material to The Danish National Police Cyber Crime Center (NC3). NC3 is a special unit in the Danish National Police that investigates, among other things, cases of child sexual abuse material.
NC3 is then responsible for adding all websites containing illegal sexual abuse material to the Danish blocking system.
When you report child sexual abuse material that proves to be located on a European server, we can typically remove it within 72 hours.
On several occasions, NC3 has been involved in internationally coordinated police actions that have cracked down on networks of individuals who have distributed illegal child sexual abuse material.
Interpol and the European Cyber Crime Center at Europol (EC3)
The Save the Children Internet hotline cooperates both with the European Cyber Crime Center at Europol and through Interpol.
Via INHOPE, an international network with 50 hotlines distributed throughout the world, the Save the Children Internet hotline collaborates with Interpol to strengthen the exchange of information on illegal material, thereby identifying even more sexual abuse victims.
The sharing and exchange of child sexual abuse material largely takes place on the Internet and across national borders. It is therefore important to cooperate closely with Europol, Interpol, and with the other 50 INHOPE member hotlines. The cooperation across national borders has meant that several illegal websites and file-sharing folders could be closed.
Break the Circle
The Save the Children Internet hotline collaborates with the Sexology Clinic at Capital Region of Denmark - Psychiatry on the Break the Circle (Bryd Cirklen) counseling efforts.
Break the Circle helps those who require counseling and treatment to manage their thoughts and fantasies about sex with children. It hosts a website and an anonymous telephone counseling service for persons with sexual thoughts about children. The counseling is carried out at the Sexology Clinic, which is part of the Capital Region of Denmark - Psychiatry.
Safer Internet Centre Denmark
Since 2004, Denmark has had a center for Internet security under the EU-Commission. The purpose of the Safer Internet Centre Denmark is to combat illegal content on the Internet and strengthen safer and more responsible Internet use—especially for children and young people.
The Safer Internet Centre Denmark partners work closely together to fulfill the objectives of the European strategy 2013‒2020:
- That children’s digital media skills are strengthened and they benefit from more creative and educational online content.
- That parents and children will benefit from better methods to create a safer online world, including simple and effective tools for reporting abuse, age-appropriate privacy settings, content-rating systems, and parental controls.
- That society as a whole would benefit from better procedures for identifying, reporting, and taking down online child sexual abuse material.

The Media Council for Children and Young People
The Media Council for Children and Young People provides information about the digital lives of children and young people and conveys useful knowledge about this issue to parents and teachers. At the Safer Internet Centre Denmark, the Media Council for Children and Young People is responsible for implementing campaigns and coordinating and promoting national-level cooperation.
Center for Digital Youth Care
The center runs the counseling site Cyberhus.dk. Cyberhus answers young people’s questions about digital life and provides online advice in cases where a young person encounters harmful or illegal content on the Internet.
Save the Children
Save the Children’s notification service, ReportIt (AnmeldDet) handles reports of images and videos of child sexual abuse. Via the international cooperation in INHOPE, the Save the Children reporting service is able to fight the distribution of and remove child sexual abuse materials on an international level.
